HOLI
Holi is a Hindu festival that takes
place in India and Nepal, it’s also known as “festival of colors” or “the
festival of love’. It signifies the glory of good over evil, for many it’s a
festival day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive and repair
broken relationships. This is celebrated in honor of Hindu god Vishnu and his
follower Prahlada.
It lasts for
a night and a day starting on the evening of the full moon.
Holi is an
ancient Hindu religious festival witch has become very popular with non-Hindus
in many parts of South Asia as well as outside of Asia.
This
festival begins with people performing religious rituals in front of a bonfire and
pray that their internal evil be destroyed, this night is called Holika Dahan.
The morning after is celebrated as Rangwali Holi where people smear colors on
each others faces and body. Water guns and balloons are also used to play,
anyone can play, rich or poor, man or women, children or elders. All this
happens in the middle of the street, parks, temples and buildings. Groups of
people carry drums around and sing all around the place.
Holi is an
annual festival that takes place around May.
This is a
religious, cultural spring type of festival.
